Liturgy Word Cloud

Since Vatican II in 1962, the role of the lay person has become very important in the Church. This is most evident when we go to Mass. There are now a number of ministries that work together to make the celebration of the Mass a memorable experience. The ministers you see at the Catholic Church of the Nativity every Sunday are: Masters of Ceremonies (MC), Sacristans, Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Altar Servers, Greeters, and Ushers.

The role of Masters of Ceremonies (MC) is to make sure all goes smooth during Mass and to instruct Altar Servers. The Sacristan prepares the altar prior to Mass, clears the altar after Mass, and makes sure that all the volunteers are present. The roles of the Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Altar Servers, Ushers, and Greeters are obvious, but each is just as important as the other. Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion need to go through diocesan training before being scheduled for serving.

Masters of Ceremonies (MC), Altar Servers, Sacristans, Ushers and Greeters  need to be trained as well. They are trained by Jim Lippy. Each scheduling period covers two months starting with the January/February period.
